ROCKit: Galaxy in a Bottle @ Northeast with Captured Studios

With this ROCKit STEM demo, make an anti-gravity galaxy in a bottle—the glitter doesn’t fall down, but actually rises up as it settles. Find out how this happens, with the help of water, baby oil, and glitter! Jazzmyn Benitez from Captured Studios will lead this STEAM demo—the art aspect of STEM. Community Programs Manager Andrea Foster of The Little Forks Conservancy will help students make seed balls – a mixture of water, clay, soil, and Michigan native seeds. As students get their hands dirty while forming seeds balls, Andrea teaches them the importance of using native seeds and what to expect when the seed balls are “thrown” into nature.

Girls Experiencing Mentoring Join us for the spring session of GEMs! Each week, high school girls and middle school girls come together for a special topic. High school girls help lead activities and provide valuable information on making it through the tricky middle school years. Middle school girls enjoy fun discussions, activities, games, and snacks! Program starts at 3:30 High school girls are encouraged to arrive at 3:00 if able.

Class subjects include: How to maintain a resume, practice interviewing, learn to network, interact with guest speakers, find and apply for jobs, earn a digital badge, manage a bank account and then receive a guaranteed job interview at a Midland business. Good Deeds Day

Good Deeds Day is a global day that unites people from 93 countries to do good deeds for the benefit of others and the planet ROCK staff and students will be participating for the second year in a row; we will be helping customers at the Midland Meijer with their groceries! Meet us at the Midland Mall for lunch around 11:30 or noon and then we'll head over to Meijer together. Pick up is at Meijer at 3:00.

Culver’s Fundraiser

May 2 @ 5:00 PM - 9:00 PM

Dine at Culver's of Midland on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 from 5-9pm and The ROCK Center for Youth Development will receive 10% of the sales! Enjoy a delicious meal (and, of course, DESSERT!) and benefit The ROCK. All funds will benefit The ROCK's Grounded (After school) program.
